What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also called a nose job, is a facial surgery that uses various nose shaping techniques to enhance the shape and size of the nose. Due to its central location on the face, the nose is responsible for tying all the facial features together. A nose with bumps, humps, asymmetry or other imperfections may detract from the overall appearance. Therefore, patients may choose to pursue a rhinoplasty to enhance the qualities of the nose and thereby their overall appearance. At HKB Renaissance Plastic Surgery, we specialize in a variety of nose shaping techniques to address concerns that include:
- Large or crooked tip of the nose
- A bump or hump in the bridge of the nose
- Wide nostrils
- Wide bridge of the nose

- Optimize the nose for improved facial harmony
- Permanent results
Who is the Ideal Candidate for a Rhinoplasty?
The ideal candidate for a rhinoplasty is a patient who is struggling with any of the cosmetic concerns listed above. Additionally, an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty must be at least 18 years old, as this is the age when the nose is fully developed and surgery becomes appropriate. However, the best way to determine your candidacy for a rhinoplasty is to schedule a consultation with Dr. David Klein or Dr. Andrew Kochuba. During this consultation, they can determine if the rhinoplasty technique is the best solution for you.
What is the Rhinoplasty Procedure Like?
The rhinoplasty procedure is performed with general anesthesia. Thanks to the unique anatomy of the nose, most incisions can be placed on the inside of the nose, where any scarring will be completely invisible. Occasionally, an additional incision may be required along the columella, which is the piece of tissue that separates the nostril. Even in this case, any scarring is well-hidden from view. Once incisions are made, Dr. David Klein and Dr. Andrew Kochuba will manipulate the nasal bones, reshape or remove cartilage and combine other surgical techniques to produce the desired results. This procedure may take up to two hours to perform.
What Can I Expect After the Rhinoplasty Procedure?
After your rhinoplasty procedure, you can expect swelling, bruising and discomfort in the nose and face. You may also experience congestion, headaches or bleeding. Following your surgery, we’ll apply a splint and bandaging to the nose to facilitate the healing process. Typically, patients take one to two weeks off of work and other activities to rest as much as possible. During this time, you’ll have to take special care to avoid blowing the nose or participating in activities that may cause injury. In some cases, additional downtime may be necessary, particularly in regards to exercise and other strenuous activities. On the day of your procedure, we’ll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to help you successfully navigate the recovery process. Results will be visible immediately, but your final results may not be visible until swelling completely subdues, which may take up to one year.
