Facelift (Rhytidectomy) in Charlotte, NC
Life takes a toll on your face. Your skin loses elasticity, which is the ability to “bounce” back in place. The facial muscles lose tone, wrinkles and lines creep up on you and sun damage makes your skin more vulnerable to the aging process. Board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. David F. Klein and Dr. Kochuba, can help you rejuvenate your appearance with facelift surgery. They are highly respected plastic surgeon amongst men and women in Charlotte, Salisbury, Harrisburg, Concord and surrounding areas of North Carolina.
What is a Facelift?
Known clinically as a rhytidectomy, a facelift is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat to help you look younger. Dr. Klein and Dr. Kochuba also specializes in techniques that help tighten the underlying muscles of the face. Facelifts are considered the most advanced method for anti-aging and are generally reserved for men and women who cannot benefit from minimally-invasive and non-invasive treatments, such as skin tightening and dermal fillers.
Benefits of a Facelift
A facelift helps men and women with the most severe signs of aging, such as folds, moderate wrinkles and creases, to look younger. A rhytidectomy does not help improve the surface of your skin, so Dr. Klein and Dr. Kochuba may recommend a chemical peel after you heal from the surgery.
Who is the Ideal Candidate for a Facelift?
A rhytidectomy is recommended for older men and women who have:
- Loose skin on the face and neck
- Double or triple chin that cannot be treated with Kybella®
- Excess fat along the jowls
- Generalized wrinkles and folds on the face
What Do I Need to Do Before a Facelift?
Facelift surgery can be overdone if it is performed by an inexperienced plastic surgeon. In order to ensure that you are completely thrilled with the results of your rhytidectomy, we recommend that you schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Klein and Dr. Kochuba. His patient-centered approach puts you at ease and helps you feel confident with the outcome of your surgery.
How Long Does It Take to Perform a Facelift?
Facelift surgery takes one to three hours.
What to Expect After a Facelift?
Your face will be bandaged, and you will have some discomfort. Someone will need to drive you home and stay with you for a few days. Your face will be swollen for a few days and bruised for up to three weeks. As the tissues heal, you will notice a tight and numb sensation. This is normal and lasts for only a few weeks.
Dr. Klein and Dr. Kochuba will schedule several follow-up appointments to monitor your progress. Please follow his instructions regarding aftercare and activity levels.
Will I Have Scars After Getting a Facelift?
You will have scars, but they are hidden in your hairline, under your chin, and behind your ear.
When Will I See the Results?
You will be surprised at how quickly you can see the results of your facelift. Within the first week or two, you will see a younger appearance, even with the residual swelling and bruising.
How Long Will the Results of a Facelift Last?
A facelift can take years off your appearance, but it cannot stop the clock. We will recommend ways to take care of your skin that will keep you looking young for seven to 15 years.
