What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are safe and effective combinations of special acids that are clinically proven to remove damaged layers of skin. HKB Renaissance will recommend one of three chemical peels:
- A light chemical peel, also known as a “lunchtime peel,” helps with superficial flaws and a dull complexion
- Medium chemical peel to help with fine lines, age spots, freckles, and certain types of discoloration
- Deep chemical peel for men and women with acne scars, moderate wrinkles, freckles, and age spots
Benefits of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are relatively quick procedures that can improve your appearance without surgery. The light chemical peel does not require downtime, only an enhanced sunscreen. Medium and deep peels offer the greatest improvement to damaged skin, but these peels also require a recovery period and some downtime.
Who is the Ideal Candidate for Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are safe for most patients. Those with sensitive skin and women who are pregnant should consider other cosmetic options.
What Do I Need to Do Before Chemical Peels?
The FDA has approved chemical peels for cosmetic purposes, but the acids that are used can cause damage if they are administered improperly. In order to achieve the best possible results from your chemical peel, we recommend that you start with a consultation at HKB Renaissance Plastic Surgery. HKB Renaissance uses a patient-centered approach that provides you with accurate information and realistic expectations so that you can make an informed decision about your treatment.
How Long Does It Take to Perform Chemical Peels?
The amount of time it will take for your chemical peel depends on:
- The depth of the peel (light, medium, or deep)
- The combination of chemicals used
- The cosmetic imperfections that are being corrected
HKB Renaissance will explain the details of your chemical peel during the consultation appointment.
What to Expect After Chemical Peels
A light chemical peel may cause a slight redness to your skin. It may also flake somewhat. Medium and deep chemical peels cause moderate flaking and some scabbing. You may have to use a prescription ointment to help with the healing process.
Will I Have Scars After Getting Chemical Peels?
You will not have scars as a result of your chemical peel. Medium and deep peels can reduce the appearance of scars in the treatment area.
When Will I See the Results?
Light chemical peels give you the most immediate results. For medium to deep peels, the healing period varies by patient. HKB Renaissance will explain your individual results during the consultation appointment.
How Long Will the Results of Chemical Peels Last?
Light chemical peels can be used monthly to exfoliate the skin. Medium and deep peels should not be repeated more than twice a year.
